Doc Rivers uttered perhaps the most damning word he could when asked what he’d learned from the video of the Celtics’ April 3 loss to the 76ers that could help reverse the outcome when the teams meet tonight in Philadelphia.
“Effort,'’ Rivers said.
The single-syllable word, delivered in matter-of-fact fashion, crystalizes what has befallen the C’s as they’ve slipped to just two games ahead of the Sixers in the race for the Atlantic Division lead. It’s not even effort in the sense of trying hard; it’s more that the club has failed to do the things it knows it needs to do to be successful.
